Vijay Hazare Trophy

Vijay Hazare Trophy was started in 2002-03 as a limited-over domestic competition involving state teams from the Ranji Trophy plates. It is named after the famous Indian cricketer Vijay Hazare.

Since its conception, Tamil Nadu has won the trophy four times and Mumbai has won it two times. Jharkhand became the champion of the 2010-2011 season, defeating Gujarat.

Format

The 27 Ranji teams are split into 5 zonal groups as follows:

South Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Hyderabad, Karanataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu
West Baroda, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Mumbai, Saurashtra

After playing each team in the group once, the four runners-up with the worst records play in the preliminary quarter finals, with the two winners joining the remaining 6 teams in the quarter final stage.
